PRIMEDIA Inc. announces that the Agricultural magazine division is turning over the administration of a 73-year old charitable foundation to Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in St. Paul, MN, who will continue to use the fund to support farm families in the Upper Midwest.
Primedia’s Helping Hand Club was set up by The Farmer magazine in 1928, to help disadvantaged farm families pay for their children’s medical costs.
Primedia Business employees have carried out the administration and stewardship of the Helping Hand Club, which was originally funded by contributions from farm families and readers of The Farmer. After The Farmer was sold to another publishing house, employees of the Agricultural Division and Soybean Digest magazine donated time and energy to carefully grow the goals and spirit of the fund. No administrative costs have ever come out of the fund, resulting in 100% of the money going to the farm children.
During its existence, the club has helped the parents of over 700 children with the burdening costs of medical care – relieving some of the stress and hardship felt by farm families who were often uninsured. The Helping Hand Club has also negotiated with health care providers to gain discounts on services for farm children.
The fund is being turned over to Children’s Hospitals with more than $375,000. It will continue to benefit farm families to help pay for health care costs through the Children’s Hospitals.
Donations to the fund can be made payable to:
Children’s Hospitals and Clinics Foundation, 2910 Centre Pointe Drive, Roseville, MN 55113

It should be noted on the check that the gift is for the Helping Hand Club Endowment.
