BRAZIL TO DEVELOP NEW BIOTECH SOYBEANS

Since Brazil's Congress has approved the sale of biotech soybeans, Embrapa, their government research entity, expects to start producing up to 11 new biotech varieties. Brazil has already been planting soybean seeds smuggled in from Argentina and other countries, but some have not been well suited to its growing conditions. Embrapa believes the new varieties will result in lower production costs for farmers in Brazil and higher yields.
