Winter Shipping, Dredging on the Mississippi River

With less water coming in from the Missouri, shipping conditions on the middle Mississippi, the key 180 miles from the Missouri to the confluence with the Ohio, were tight all winter. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers worked day and night work to keep the channel open.
