DIY in-field management zones

Jim Shertzer, FARMServer lead, talked with us about FARMServer's new tool, DIY management zones. Using this tool will help farmers utilize variable rate technology, he says.

The management zone creation tool, a step-by-step process, allows users to create zones from data including yield, soil type and crop health imagery. The zones can be modified, the rates chosen and test blocks can be added to further test plant populations or applications. All of this is done by the farmer, with a simple online tool at FARMServer.com. Then farmers just upload that prescription to their monitor in their equipment.

Users can then go back and look at the data to see yield by zone, where populations were pushed and then learn from the zones and modify them for future use.

To use the management zone creation tool, along with other premium services – including crop health image processing, yield analytics, field prescriptions and more – FARMServer charges a yearly fee of $600, no matter what the acreage. There is a basic, free option available, too. And crop health imaging will cost you $2.50/acre/flight, which nets you 21 images of your fields for analyzing what's happening.
