The 2008-2009 soybean crop in Paraguay, the world's fourth-largest soy exporter, will total only 3.8 million metric tons (mmt). This is 43% lower than last year's harvest of 6.8 mmt. When planting began in October, growers had expected the crop to be similar to last year's. This estimate does not bode well for Argentina's drought-stricken crop.
