PLANTER MONITORING ADDITION
Ag Leader Technology has added a planter-monitoring function to SeedCommand, its planter control system. With the addition, SeedCommand can track and log average population while monitoring seed spacing. A color bar graph and population display provide the information to operators in real time.
For the 2008 growing season, the planter monitoring function is available to replace the Kinze KPM I, II or III planter monitors. SeedCommand monitors auxiliary planter functions on Kinze planters including: vacuum level on EdgeVac planters, bulk seed delivery on SDS planters, row-unit down force on pneumatic down-force planters and transmission shaft speed on all supported Kinze planters.
Variable-rate planting can also be done with SeedCommand through a serial connection to Rawson controllers.
Buhler Industries has come out with a new series of four-wheel-drive tractors. The Versatile tractors will come with 305-, 340-, 375- or 400-hp Cummins diesel engines and with two transmission options. Road speed on the new Versatile models has been increased to a max speed of 22 mph.
The hydraulic system on the Versatile has true-load-sensing tandem-piston pumps and a capacity of 50 gpm. Also available is an optional high-flow hydraulics package, which increases capacity to 75 gpm. Four hydraulic remote outlets are standard, with an option of six.
With an increased fuel capacity of 250 gal., the Versatile models also offer a deluxe cab package including a heated active-suspension seat, electronic automatic climate control, front and rear wipers, power remote heated external mirrors and front and rear sun visors.
The new models will be available in limited quantities in May 2008.
Michelin introduces its new Multibib radial tire, a large-volume replacement for four-wheel-drive and mechanical-front-assist tractors. It can also be used as a dual on combines.
Delivering a larger footprint without larger rims, the Multibib provides better flotation and traction while reducing wheel slip. Growers can capitalize on lower psi, helping to reduce soil compaction. Available in 17 sizes, this is the only 65-series tire in North America with a D speed rating (up to 40 mph).
Hiniker Company is offering their new 6000ST strip tiller. It is available as a complete system or as a set of attachments for the Hiniker 6000 cultivator. Granular or liquid fertilizer-dispensing systems are available with the lift assist or fertilizer carts. The adjustable high-tensile steel shank works at depths of 6-9 in., and the 18-in. discs easily capture ripped soil and place it into the berm.
